What an amazing 10/10 Kid-Friendly 5-Ingredient Easy Ravioli Lasagna! My family loves it and it only takes a few minutes to put together.
Making of the Weekly Menu and Grocery List
Early one afternoon I was speaking to a elementary age young boy about things he would like to eat over the next couple of weeks. I was confident that he would be just the person to talk to about this. He loved to hang out with me of an evening or during the weekend while his dad was working and watch MKR (My Kitchen Rules of Australia and later of New Zealand) was our favorite. But he also enjoyed a wide variety of the cooking competition shows.
After a few weeks of watching these shows together he started “scoring” my dishes and overall meals. Love that little boy he was always brutally honest; especially when it came to scoring mine and his dad’s cooking! As the weeks rolled buy he started being very specific about his scoring and “why” he scored something the way he did. He even started showing interest and the desire in helping create those meals.
So, back to the main story. We were talking about meals for the next couple of weeks and what groceries we would need to be picking up at the store or utilizing what we already had in the fridge, freezer, and cabinets. And as we talked he had this serious look on his face, thinking hard. He would even tap his chin with his forefinger deep in thought. (It was so cute!)
Then when he would get really serious about it he would start opening cabinets and shuffling things around. Go to the fridge and open the drawers and pick condiment bottles up and look at them. Then open the freezer and stand there deep in thought. If there was something he didn’t know by sight what it was then he would pull it out and ask me what it was. If he didn’t know what could be made out of it he would ask me that also. Then stand there and look at it turning it this way and that, then put it back where it was.
What Are “Rabioli” Tam Tam?
So, this young man and his dad loved my spaghetti. Then while I was at the store a few weeks before I had picked up several different types of frozen ravioli since they were on sale. I put them away and had forgotten about them. On this particular afternoon as he was scrutinizing the contents of the freezer, he squatted down and reaches deep into the back of a lower shelf. He pulls out one of the bags of frozen ravioli and hollers at me and asks; “Hey! What are rabioli (misspelled on purpose) Tam Tam?”
So, I had to stop and think about how to explain to this very inquisitive child what it was. Therefore, knowing he absolutely loves spaghetti and would eat it 3-4 times a week every week; if I would fix it that often. I explained that they took spaghetti noodles, squished them flat, and stuffed them with a variety of sausage, mushrooms, and cheeses. Instead of putting those ingredients into the sauce or over the top like we do with his spaghetti.
The Decision Was Made!
After studying the contents of the cabinets, fridge, and freezer the little boy climbs up on the arm of my chair and tells me to “Oogle some structions Tam Tam.” Therefore, I opened Google Search and we proceeded to look at many recipes. He also expressed he wanted to try “rabioli” this week instead of spaghetti. So, we looked for a Ravioli recipe and read several. He found a recipe he thought would be easy for him to help me make. The following is what we ended up creating.
I hope your littles score it a 10/10 as well!
Most Versatile Easy Ravioli Lasagna
You don’t have to boil noodles or mix together a bunch of ingredients. One baking dish and that is it! Unless you are like I am and can never make a recipe exactly like you find it. Then you might have an additional skillet and bowl. But even with the additional options it is fast and easy recipe! Check it out below!
🍝 5-Ingredient Easy Ravioli Lasagna
- Prep Time: 10 mins
- Cook Time: 45 mins
- Total Time: approx. 1 hour
- Servings: 8–10 servings
5-Ingredient Easy Ravioli Lasagna
Ingredients
2 25-ounce jars of marinara pasta sauce
2 30-ounce packages of frozen cheese ravioli (I like to use a sausage or beef ravioli)
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/3 cup chopped fresh basil leaves optional garnish
My Addition: We LOVE mushrooms, so I like to take a variety. Wash, slice, and sauté them in a touch of butter. Let them cool a bit, then stir them into the sauce before layering. Totally optional, but totally worth it!
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- Spray a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray.
- Spread half of a jar of marinara sauce evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Add 1 package of ravioli in an even layer over the sauce.
- Top with the other half of the jar of marinara sauce.
- Sprinkle 3/4 cup of mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese over the sauce.
- Add another layer of sauce, ravioli, sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
- Spray a piece of aluminum foil with cooking spray.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil, sprayed side down.
- Bake the lasagna for 30 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the sauce is bubbly.
- Remove pan from oven and let sit for 5 minutes.
- Garnish with basil, if desired. Serve warm.
Noteworthy Information
Note-You don’t have to thaw or cook the ravioli first, just put it in the pan frozen. We like to serve Air Fryer Garlic Bread on the side! And honestly, who doesn’t love garlic bread with spaghetti, lasagna, or ravioli. Especially when both recipes are easy and make a quick dinner simple.
Additional Note: I like to mix it up and use a variety of ravioli; beef, sausage, and mushroom are my go-to picks when I’m feeling extra creative. If your crew likes things on the heartier side, go ahead and brown up some hamburger, Italian or pork sausage, onions, bell peppers; or even toss in a little pepperoni between the layers. And since you’ve already got the skillet going, why not double the recipe? I make extra in foil pans with cardboard lids, vacuum seal ’em, and freeze for later. It’s a lifesaver on those “What’s for dinner?” kind of nights!
👩🍳 Make It Your Own – Optional Add-Ins!
| Protein Boost | Veggie Twist | Flavor Punch |
|---|---|---|
| Browned hamburger | Sautéed mushrooms | Pepperoni slices |
| Italian sausage | Bell peppers & onions | Garlic butter drizzle |
| Leftover meatballs (crumbled) | Spinach or zucchini | Crushed red pepper flakes |
✨ Let your fridge guide you and make it your signature dish!
Couple of Extra Side Notes:
We have baked our easy ravioli lasagna on the grill. Just make sure you have a liner with edges because ours bubbled over but it was still delicious. Times are still about the same when using the same temps as you would with the oven. Also, I went ahead and baked the additional pans that I made up. Which were for most people just big enough for two servings. (But around here the men in the house eat like high school boys with 3 a-day practices!) Then I let them fully cool before adding a cover and vacuum sealing them.
Freezer Meal Hack You’ll Love
- 💡 Use disposable foil pans with cardboard lids – easy to label and stack.
- 🧊 Let lasagna cool completely before vacuum sealing or covering to prevent freezer burn.
- 📅 Label with name + date and “Bake at 400°F for 30 – 45 mins from frozen.(Dependig on the size of the containers you choose to use.)”
- 💼 Great for work lunches, busy weeknights, or sharing with friends in need!
